Two of our cats love sitting out on our 3 season porch even during the 4th season (winter) when no one should be out there. They’re at least protected from the wind, but it’s COLD on the porch.

Thankfully, they are smart enough to let us know when it gets too cold and they want to come back inside, but I thought that with little sweaters, they might be able to stay out there longer if they want to.
Normally, cats with long hair don’t need extra clothing, so I imagine you have a hairless cat if you’re here to make a cat sweater. I’ve heard that hairless cats are big fans of warm clothing so hopefully you and your kitten find this pattern helpful.
Stitches
Overall the stitches for this cat sweater are nice and simple. You’ll first start with a single crochet ribbing for the collar. Half of the collar is worked in the back loop only which creates a squishy ribbing while the other half is worked with normal single crochets which allows the ribbing to be folded down and lay flat.
From there, you’ll start working in continuous rounds of half double crochet stitches, and use chains to create openings for their front legs.
Once you finish the main body, you’ll finish off the sweater with single crochet ribbing. Many animal sweaters have a longer back than stomach portion but to keep this sweater simple, I just made the body of the sweater even all around.

Yarn
Brava Tweed yarn from We Crochet was the perfect choice for these cat sweaters, especially for our little guy, he just looks so dapper in tweed.

Brava Tweed is a worsted weight Acrylic yarn with pieces of Viscose to give that tweed look. It’s a super easy yarn to work with and has a nice range of colors. If you’re not a fan of the tweed, the regular Brava worsted yarn has even more color options and is just as easy to work with.
You can sub pretty much any worsted weight acrylic in this pattern, just be sure to check your gauge as worsted weight yarns have such a wide range of thicknesses.

Skill Level
This cat sweater is rated at an Easy skill level. The stitches are simple and the sweater doesn’t require significant shaping.
The neck/collar is intentionally wide so it goes over kitty’s head easily and isn’t tight around their throats. The chest/body area is easily made larger as you make the arm holes. It’s pretty simple over all!

Notes
The neck of the sweater will be worked first, back and forth in rows. Half of the row will be worked in the BLO while the other half is worked through both loops. The collar can then be folded down without being as bulky.
After joining the neck, youโll work in continuous rounds leaving arm holes and expanding for the chest/stomach. The sweater is then finished with short ribbing worked in rows around the bottom.
The ch 1 to start each row does not count as a stitch. The pattern is written for a medium size with extra small, small, and large following. M (XS, S, L)
