Thereโ€™s something timeless about a simple striped blanket, and the Sequoia Striped Crochet Blanket Pattern brings that classic look into the modern home. Featuring large horizontal stripes and the beautifully textured crunch stitch, this throw was designed to blend seamlessly into any minimalist, modern, or cozy space.

With its easy stitch repeat and simple construction, this is a great project for a confident beginner or anyone looking for a relaxing, no-fuss crochet pattern. The repetitive rhythm of the crunch stitch makes it perfect for mindless and comforting crocheting.

Whether draped over the back of a couch or layered at the end of a bed, the Sequoia Striped Blanket adds just the right amount of cozy, modern charm. Choose a neutral palette for a sleek look or go bold with contrasting tonesโ€”either way, youโ€™ll end up with a beautiful, textured throw youโ€™ll want to use year-round.

Stitches

The stitches used for this striped blanket are super simple. You need to know how to chain, slip stitch, and half double crochet. Thatโ€™s it!

This pattern of stitches is usually called the Crunch Stitch or the Even Moss Stitch. Itโ€™s worked by alternating half double crochets with slip stitches, which makes a gorgeous and interesting texture.

If youโ€™d like to practice the crunch stitch before starting a whole blanket, you can check out the Crunch Stitch Crochet tutorial, or you can try a smaller project first, like the Softest Crochet Washcloth.

Yarn

I used Color Theory by Lion Brand Yarns, which is a beautiful 100% Acrylic worsted-weight yarn. Color Theory comes in 18 different colors, which coordinate together gorgeously.

This yarn has so much squish, but surprisingly, it doesnโ€™t feel super soft. Don’t get me wrong, it isnโ€™t coarse, but it wasnโ€™t quite as soft as I expected. I think it works really well for blanekts.

The yarn does have great drape and doesnโ€™t split. You can probably also tell from the pictures that it has great stitch definition.

Skill Level

This pattern is rated Easy, although I think an adventurous beginner would be fine trying it. Make sure you work through the Crunch Stitch Tutorial if you are struggling at all.

The main skills youโ€™ll need to know are changing colors, chains, slip stitches, and half double crochets.

The ch 2 (also referred to as the turning chain (tc)) at the beginning of the rows counts as a stitch.

To adjust the width of the blanket, keep the starting chain an odd number.
