Yarn
The lovey was made with Made with Love The Cottony One Yarn by Lion Brand. Wow, that sentence was a little confusing; the name of the actual yarn is Made with Love The Cottony One. That seems like an excessively long name for a yarn.
The yarn is wonderful though. It’s a cotton acrylic blend that’s tightly plied and super soft. I absolutely love the stitch definition of this yarn and it is so easy to work with.

I’d like to make more things with it and hope they come out with more colors. The colors they have are great, but right now I think there are only 17 color choices.
I made a smaller version of the kitty lovey using Sirdar Snuggly 100% cotton yarn in Mauve and Cream. It looks great with thinner yarn too, but it has a bit more snuggle to it in a worsted weight yarn.

Stitches
The cute cat head, ears, and arms are crocheted with basic stitches normally used for amigurumi. You’ll need to know how to start with a magic circle and do single crochets, increases, and decreases.
You’ll also need to know some basic amigurumi joining techniques to add the ears to the head and secure the arms and the blanket. This How to Sew Closed Pieces video by Darling Maple Designs is one of my favorites for learning to sew on parts.
The blanket part of the lovey is a little more complicated. The main stitches you’ll need to know are half double crochets, double crochets, puff stitches, chains, and slip stitches. The blanket is worked in joined rounds that form a hexagon shape.
Skill Level
The lovey crochet pattern is rated at an intermediate skill level since there are several different stitches and skills you’ll need to know. I won’t go over them all again since they’re listed in the stitches section, but I do want you to be aware that this probably isn’t a beginner pattern.

Assembly
Ears
Sew the ear directly across from each other spanning rounds 5-10 or wherever they look best to you.
Arms
Position the arms directly across from each other and in line with the ears. Sew the arms to the head along round 22.
Blanket
Attach the blanket to the head between the arms using tail end.
Facial Features
The facial features are created using basic straight embroidery stitches with either embroidery floss or yarn. If you want thicker facial features, go over each section 2 or 3 times.
Nose and Mouth The top of the nose will span 3 stitches between rounds 13 and 14. (Make sure to center it between the ears.)
Make the sides of the nose by working from each end of the top of the nose into the stitch one round down from the center of the top of the nose.
To fill in the nose, wrap the yarn around the sides instead of working into the stitches. Do not pull too tight or you’ll have a squished nose.
From the bottom of the nose work one stitch down and for each side of the mouth, work one round down and two stitches over.
Eyes
From the center top of the nose, start each eye one round up and two stitches over spanning 3 stitches. Create the eyelashes by working one round up and one stitch over from the end of eye, and then 1 round up and 2 stitches over.
