Cute and simple these Farmhouse Coaster Crochet Patterns will help you work on your tapestry crochet skills while making simple coasters for your home.
Have you tried a pattern with color work? One where you carry the color you aren’t using on the top of the row below as you crochet over it? Last fall, I knew I wanted to design a pattern with some complex color work (see the Buffalo Check Crochet Pillow Cover) but first I needed to practice! I started with these Farmhouse Crochet Coasters. (Plus, we needed coasters.)
These coasters are such a nice size. There is room for my mug and a healthy piece of chocolate. Coffee and chocolate on a cute crochet coaster – a lovely alliteration of some of my favorite things! Add a cat and a kid and there ya go. (Sorry hubby, you don’t alliterate but you are still a favorite.)
Let’s talk about that coaster with stripes. Who doesn’t love stripes? When I finished the coaster, looking at it with admiration, I realized I could have done the stripes in rows instead of columns and saved a whole lot of time. BUT the whole point of these was to practice carrying the yarn and making smooth color changes, so it wasn’t time wasted. Feel free to do 2 rows of each color if you don’t care for the practice.
I recommend using 100% cotton yarn for the coasters. They wash well, I spill on them constantly, and they absorb drips and condensation. As you use the coasters, the stitches will settle into place and form a surprisingly smooth, flat surface.
