About the Yarn in the V Stitch Scarf
Grab your favorite category 5 bulky yarn to make this scarf! It’s going to look great in any yarn you choose.
The pattern was written using Caron Colorama O’Go Yarn, which is a bulky weight acrylic yarn. I absolutely love the color options in this yarn and it’s nice to use self-striping yarn and let each color change happen wherever they do in the yarn.
If you do use O’Go yarn, I learned through trial and error that it is easier to pull the yarn from the side takes the yarn from the inside of the tube instead of unwrapping around the outside. There’s a picture in the Papa’s Crochet Blanket post if you want to see what I mean.
You can also hold together two worsted weight strands of yarn to make a bulky yarn. You’re color option are almost unlimited if you do that!
If you find that you want even more drape in your fabric, try using a larger hook.

The Crochet V Stitch
This scarf uses the double crochet v-stitch which is a super simple stitch combination that’s made using double crochet stitches and chains. You’ll work a double crochet, chain stitch, double crochet, into the same stitch, which is the chain 1 space of the row below once you are past row 1. Once you finish Row 2 the rest of the scarf is an easy repeat and you can work quickly.
The double crochet v-stitch is really similar to the spider stitch which is worked with single crochet stitches and chains. The v-stitch can also be worked with hdc stitches. It’s so versatile and gives you a nice drapey fabric that has a lacy look.
If you haven’t worked this stitch before, you can find a great step-by-step v-stitch photo tutorial right here on Stitching Together.
Even though the stitches are open and lacy, make no mistake, this scarf is WARM. The open stitches ensures that it wraps nicely around your neck while the bulky yarn provides the warmth. It’s a great stitch and yarn combination.
