How Do You Crochet A Pumpkin Coaster?

These fun and lovely coasters are actually really easy to make and are a very quick project. You’ll start with a magic circle and work in joined rounds. You’ll be using a variety of basic stitches which gives the coaster a classic pumpkin shape. Once you’ve finished with the body of the pumpkin, you’ll add an easy stem with a little brown yarn and that’s it!

What Yarn Do You Use For Crochet Coasters?

It is usually best to use cotton yarn for coasters since it is heat-resistant and absorbent. If you are using these mainly for decoration and if protecting your surfaces from a hot beverage isn’t super important, then it should be fine to make an acrylic coaster too.

Just consider how you will use the final coasters and what yarn scraps you have on hand or what yarn you’d like to buy in order to make the best yarn choice for your fall pumpkin coasters.

I used I Love This Cotton Yarn from Hobby Lobby which is a 100% cotton worsted weight yarn. This cotton is a soft yarn that’s easy to work with and it can be machine washed and dried so if your coasters get a little dirty, they are easy to clean. There’s also a great selection of colors so it’s easy to make a variety of pumpkins in different colors.

Easy Pumpkin Crochet Coaster Pattern Instructions:

Pumpkin

Start with a Magic Circle (MC)

Round 1: ch 1, 6 hdc in MC, tighten to close, join with a sl st to the 1st hdc of the round. (6)

Round 2: ch 1, 2 hdc in each st around, join with a sl st. (12)

Round 3: ch 1, inc, 2 hdc in the next st, 2 dc in the next 2 sts, 2 hdc in the next st, sc in the next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st, 2 dc in next 2 sts, 2 hdc in next st, inc, join with a sl st. (22)

Round 4: ch 1, sc, hdc, [2 hdc in the next 2 sts, hdc in the next 2 sts] 2 times, dc in the next 2 sts, [hdc in the next 2 sts, 2 hdc in the next 2 sts] 2 times, hdc, sc, join with a sl st. (30)

Round 5: ch 1, sc in the next 2 sts, 2 dc in the next 3 sts, dc in the next 3 sts, 2 dc in the next 3 sts, dc in the next 8 sts, 2 dc in the next 3 sts, dc in the next 3 sts, 2 dc in the next 3 sts, sc in the next 2 sts, join with a sl st. (42)

Fasten off.

Stem

Turn the pumpkin around so the wrong/back side is facing you. (This is a matter preference as I thought the stitches looked neater when worked that way.) In this case, the front loops are the loops closest to you even when working on the wrong side. Work in the back loops only if you want to work the stem from the right/front side of the pumpkin.

You will work the stem in the 4 single crochet stitches at the top of the pumpkin.

Join brown yarn in the front loop only of the first single crochet from the right.

Row 1: ch 1, sc flo in the 4 sts, turn (4)

Row 2, ch 1, sc in each st, (4)

Fasten off and weave in ends.
