How to Crochet the Grandview Granny Square
Like most traditional granny squares, this square starts in the center and works up in rounds. It is only 4 rounds of the main stitch pattern plus the single crochet border to make 5 quick rounds.
I have the pattern marked at an Intermediate Skill Level, but honestly I think the most complicated part about this granny square is following the written pattern. The stitches themselves aren’t hard, but you do need to take your time to follow the brackets and repeats in the pattern. You’ll get the hang of it quickly and by whipping out squares in no time.
Stitches used in the Granny Square
I love combining favorite stitches to create something new! This granny uses puff stitches plus double crochet v-stitches to make a unique motif.
Please pay attention to the pattern notes as the first 4 puff stitches have one more yarn over than the rest of the puff stitches. It won’t make too much difference if you do all the puffs the same way, but I really liked it with fatter puffs in the center.
Yarn used for the Crochet Granny Square
For these sample squares I grabbed one of my favorite worsted weight acrylics: Premier Anti-Pilling Everyday. It is such an easy yarn to work with and it has a wonderful sheen.
Join the Premier Yarns reward program here – you get a coupon and I get reward points. Win-win.
Unfortunately it looks like the gorgeous terracotta color I used (called Terracotta Heather) has been discontinued. I’m guessing the Premier Anti-Pilling Medley yarn in Rust is a similar color but I haven’t seen it in person yet.
The other two colors, Chinchilla and Cream are both still available as well as 56 other gorgeous colors.
Do you have to use a worsted weight acrylic? Nope. In fact I have a pattern in the works based on this square that uses Paintbox Yarn Cotton Aran and you are going to love it!
Try scrap yarn you have on hand. Just grab a coordinating hook size and get started!
