Stitches
This simple farmhouse dishcloth is made using a combination of the mini bean stitch and half double crochets in a simple four row repeat. It’s finished with two rounds of single crochets that make the border.
Don’t be intimidated if you haven’t learned the mini bean stitch yet! It is a super easy stitch pattern and fun to work with. You can also check out the mini bean stitch tutorial for a full guide with step-by-step photos. The mini bean stitch gives this dishcloth great texture and scrubbing power.

Yarn
Dishie yarn from WeCrochet & KnitPicks is one of my favorite cotton yarns to work with. It is a lighter worsted weight 100% cotton yarn that’s tightly plied so it is both soft and smooth.
Dishie cotton yarn comes in a beautiful range of colors, allowing you to mix and match for dishcloth sets that fit any style or color palette. Plus, it’s machine washable and dryable, which is a must-have feature when crafting crochet dishcloths or washcloths.

Below you’ll find some yarn substitution ideas but whatever you choose, remember that 100% cotton is always the top choice for crochet dishcloths! Cotton blended with other natural fibers like bamboo or linen can also work for dishcloths.

Skill Level
This crochet dishcloth is rated at an easy skill level. While the mini bean stitch is a simple stitch pattern, I don’t know if it is one to tackle as a beginner crocheter. If you are a beginner and really want to try this dishcloth, you could try the mini bean stitch tutorial first.
Dishcloths are one of the best ways to practice new stitches and crochet skills. If you want more great ideas for dishcloths, don’t miss the Best Stitches for Dishcloths posts.

Abbreviations
ch: chain
mbs: mini bean stitch (see special stitches)
st(s): stitch(es)
hdc: half double crochet
sc: single crochet
sl st: slip stitch
beg: beginning
Notes
For the rows of half double crochet stitches, you’ll work in each mini bean stitch and in the chain 1 that closes the mini bean stitches.
The ch 1 that starts each row does not count as a stitch.
The rows of mini bean stitch do start with a chain where normally you do not need to use a turning chain for mbs.
Special Stitches
Mini Bean Stitch (mbs): Insert hook into stitch, pull up a loop, yarn over, insert hook into the same stitch and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through all four loops on the hook, ch 1 to close the stitch. When working into the mbs, do not work into the ch 1, but work into the mbs itself which is almost on the side of the stitch.
Crochet Farmhouse Dishcloth Pattern Instructions
Ch 41
Row 1: Mbs in the 3rd ch from hook, *skip ch, mbs in the next ch, repeat from * to the end of the row, turn. (20 mbs)
Row 2-3: Ch 1, mbs in each st across, turn. (20 mbs)
Row 4: Ch 1, hdc in each st across, turn (39)
Row 5: Ch 1, *mbs, sk st, repeat from * across. (20 mbs)
Row 6-7: Ch 1, mbs in each st across, turn. (20 mbs)
Row 8: Ch 1, hdc in each st across, turn (39)
Rows 9-35: Repeat rows 5-8
Border
For the sides of the first round of the border, you’ll want to crochet 5 sc for every 4 rows. I found it easiest to put 2 sc at the end of each middle row of mbs stitches (rows 2, 6, 10…)
Round 1: Ch 1,
Side 1: sc at the end of each row, 2 sc at the end of the middle mbs row. (sc, ch 1, sc) in corner,
Bottom: sc in each st, (sc, ch 1, sc) in corner,
Side 2: sc at the end of each row, 2 sc at the end of the middle mbs row. (sc, ch 1, sc) in corner,
Top: sc in each st, (sc, ch 1, sc) in corner, join with sl st to beg sc.
Round 2: ch 1, sc in each st, join with sl st to beg sc.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
