Yarn for the Easy Crochet Dishcloth Pattern
The best yarn to use for dishcloths is a 100% cotton yarn that can be machine washed and dried. For these easy round dishcloths, I used I Love This Cotton Yarn from Hobby Lobby. It is a worsted-weight cotton yarn that is super soft and easy to work with.
The hook size recommended on the band of I Love This Cotton Yarn is a size I, 5.5 mm, but I used a J, 6.0 mm hook so that the stitches are a little looser and hopefully will allow the dishcloth to dry quicker between uses. Even with the loose stitches, the dishcloth still has extra scrubbing power, especially on the spider stitch rounds.
The dishcloths use just over one ounce of yarn, so it is a great way to use up leftover yarn and there are many other types of cotton yarn that will work great for this simple crochet project.

Stitches for the Round Dishcloth
This isn’t a beginner pattern even though it does use basic stitches like single crochets, chains, and slip stitches. If you are a beginner that is comfortable working in the round, increasing, and you understand the basics of the spider stitch, you should be able to tackle this simple dishcloth.
Thankfully it is a quick crochet project that uses a fairly small amount of yarn, so it would be good practice if you are looking to increase your crochet skills.
Most of the rounds just use single crochet stitches, and then there are some rounds of spider stitches to add some additional texture. The spider stitch pattern is a single crochet, chain 1, single crochet all in the same stitch. When you work multiple rows of spider stitches, you’ll be working the single crochet, chain 1, single crochet into the chain 1 space of the spider stitch in the previous round.
The final round is a variation on the spider stitch that has two chain stitches between two single crochet stitches instead of one chain. It’s not too much different but it does allow more exaggerated points at the edge of the fabric.

A number followed by sc without parenthesis indicates you will work one single crochet in the next number of stitches. Example 8 sc means to work one single crochet into the next 8 stitches.
The spider stitch is a (sc, ch 1, sc) worked in the same stitch. On the rounds with spider stitches, the stitch count is given in number of spider stitches since they are quicker to count.
If you’d like to make the striped version, use a contrasting color for rounds 7-9 and rounds 15-16.
