US size J/10, 6.0 mm crochet hook – grab my favorite hooks right on Amazon

Lily’s Sugar and Cream – Category 4 worsted weight yarn, 4 oz /113 g (order from Amazon)

  • Solid Stocking:
    • 4 oz Overcast
    • 1.5 oz Ecru
  • Striped Stocking:
    • 2 oz Overcast
    • 3.5 oz Ecru

Large Eye Yarn Needle – these are my favorite!

Abbreviations:

MC: Main color (Ecru)
CC: Contrasting color (Overcast)
ch: chain
sc(s): single crochet(s)
sl st: slip stitch
st(s): stitch(es)
sc2tog: single crochet two together
spider stitch: (sc, ch 1, sc) in the same stitch
rnd: round        

Gauge: 4” x 4” = 7 spider stitches by 15 rows

Finished Size: from toe to top of unfolded cuff: 19.5”.  Leg width: 5.75”

Notes:

Within the pattern each completed (sc, ch 1, sc) is referred to as a spider stitch.

If you find a gap between the corner of the heel and the first round after the heel, flip the stocking inside out and just sew up the gap.  

The toe, foot, and leg of the stocking are all worked in joined rounds. The heel is worked rows.

Solid Christmas Stocking Pattern Instructions

Toe and Foot:

With MC start with a magic circle, ch 1, sc 8 in the circle, tighten to close, join with a sl st to the first sc of the round. (8)

Round 1: ch 1, 2 sc in each st around, join with a sl st. (16)

Round 2: ch 1, *sc, 2 sc, repeat from * around, join with a sl st. (24)

Round 3: ch 1, *sc in the next 2 sts, 2 sc, repeat from * around, join with a sl st. (32)

Round 4: ch 1, sc in each st, join with a sl st. (32)

Round 5: ch 1, sc in each st, join with a sl st. (32)

Round 6: ch 1, *sc in the next 3 sts, 2 sc, repeat from * around, join with a sl st. (40)

Rounds 7-10: ch 1, sc in each st, join with a sl st. (40)

Round 11: WithCC, ch 1, *(sc, ch 1, sc), sk 1, repeat from * around, join with a sl st to the first sc of the round. (20 spider stitches – see note)

Round 12-26: ch 1, *(sc, ch 1, sc) in ch-1 sp, repeat from * around, join with a sl st to the first sc of the round. Fasten off yarn. (20 spider stitches)

Heel:

Row 1: With CC, count back 5 spider stitches from where yarn was fastened off, join yarn in the ch-1 sp of the 5th spider stitch back, ch 1, *sc in ch-1 sp, sc in sp between spider stitches, repeat from * for a total of 19 scs (will span 10 spider stitches)

Row 2: With MC, ch 1, sc2tog, sc in the next 15 sts, sc2tog, turn. (17)

Row 3: ch 1, sc2tog, sc in the next 13 sts, sc2tog, turn. (15)

Row 4: ch 1, sc2tog, sc in the next 11 sts, sc2tog, turn. (13)

Row 5: ch 1, sc2tog, sc in the next 9 sts, sc2tog, turn. (11)

Fold the heel in half toward the back/outside.

Flip heel right side out.

Round 1: Join CC in the 10th sc on the heel (right in the middle of the top edge of the heel), (sc, ch 1, sc) in the same st, sk 1, [(sc, ch 1, sc), sk 1] 4 times, [(sc, ch 1, sc) in ch-1 sp] 11 times, sk 1, [(sc, ch 1, sc), sk 1] 4 times, join with a sl st to the first sc of the round. (20 spider stitches)

Round 2-30: ch 1, *(sc, ch 1, sc) in ch-1 sp, repeat from * around, join with a sl st to the first sc of the round. (20 spider stitches)

Round 31: ch 1, *sc in ch-1 sp, sc in sp between spider stitches, repeat from * around, join with a sl st. (40)
